Peach Pie and Nostalgia

I really miss the days in Moscow when baby Jack would go down for a nap and I'd sit at our computer that also served as a TV in our big bare living room next to the futon which was the only piece of furniture we owned, and blog.  I miss the days when I would put Jack on the queen sized bed in our bedroom every day and play "make the bed with the baby in it" and he would laugh and laugh.

Lately I feel as though moments slip through my fingers too quickly to be made into memories.  There are so many kids now, so many funny little quirks and jokes and quotes that I wish so badly I could put into long-term memory, but how can I if they don't even make it to the end of the day?

I hope a return to blogging will help.  Here are some of my favorite memories lately with random pictures interspersed.

-Tonight the sky was cotton candy blue and pink, and I sat on the driveway and watched Henry go up and down on his little plastic bike that we inherited from the Rutledges, and when he ran his heavy diaper would bounce back and forth.  He wanted to go to the park so badly but Nora was laying naked on a blanket in the grass and I didn't want to move her, so I said no and he put his little hands into fists and punched the air downwards at his sides to show his frustration. Then he tried a new tactic and smiled his most charming smile at me and pointed at me, and then the road.

-Karlee Moore brought me a peach pie the other night while Derek was in colorado.  I had just started a 24 hour fast, so I wrapped it up and put it safely away in the fridge.  I went to bed starving and woke up at 2 even more starving and ran into the kitchen and ravenously gobbled half of it.  So I fasted for 24 hours, minus the weak pie moment. It was the best tasting pie I can ever remember, tied with my mom's cherry.

-Jack and Annie have made a habitat in the clubhouse for their worms that we got from the gas station.  They are giant nightcrawlers, and they have made little homes for them and spend hours outside catering to their every need.

-Henry sleeps on the bottom bunk now and every night we do kisses- penguins kiss like this, butterflies kiss like this, mommies kiss like this and doggies kiss like this! He loves it and pats the pillow and pushes my head down next to him when I show signs of leaving.

-Nora lights up a room with her spirit.  When I go in to get her from her bed she gives me the biggest smiles and makes happy noises.  I love her warm chubby self so much.  She has a very sweet presence.

-Jack fasted for quite awhile on Sunday and did a pretty good job not complaining.  I was very proud of him.  He is learning how to crochet and he really enjoys it and is actually catching on pretty quickly.

-Annie has a fake laugh lately that has us all half-annoyed, half-amused.  She is a great caretaker to Henry and lets me take pictures of her whenever I want- she's a great model! She has a kindness and goodness in her soul that just sparkles all day long.  And she's getting to be quite a good reader! She lives for fun and adventure and was the last one to come into the car when we were fishing at oronoco the other day and it started raining and drenched her through.

-Derek and I just caught up on all the Anne with an E's and we really enjoyed it- it really took me back to when I was a little girl and was just like Anne- so passionate and full of the wonder of life.  I hope I can always remember to still be that way.
